Tony Amechi as Tribal Dancer

Biography

Tony Amechi, sometimes credited as Tony Amelchi, was a supporting actor and dancer. (Not to be confused with Chief Tony Amechi, who is an entirely different person!)

Unfortunately, virtually nothing is known about his personal life or his professional career as a performer.

The James Bond adventure “Live & Let Die” is one of Tony’s only confirmed major movie credits, where he was one of the tribal dancers.

Tony was located in the 1986 “Doctor Who” series called “The Trial of a Time Lord”, specifically in the four part episodes called ‘Mindwarp’, where he appears as a guard bearer. Two rare images of Tony during the filming of these episodes have been displayed below and in the Gallery section of The Bond Archives.

During the same year as “Doctor Who”, Tony also appeared in series 3 of the British comedy show “Alas Smith & Jones”.

Our search continues for further information on his life and career!

Character Biography

In "Live & Let Die", Tony Amechi was cast as one of the tribal dancers in the voodoo sequence.

Unfortunately he has not yet been definitively identified in the film.

A possible candidate has been shown below as one of the coffin bearers during Solitaire's intended sacrifice.

Note: Tony is not the 'crab walking' dancer seen during Baron Samedi's performance at the San Monique hotel, as has been publicised on another website.

Autograph History and Rarity

The photo displayed below was signed by Tony Amechi for the Oxenrider collection in July of 2006.

His autograph has not been seen in any other 007 collection or on any other material.

Did You Know?

Despite our efforts to reconnect with Tony, it seems that he has either relocated or sadly passed away.

There were a large number of tribal dancers and extras seen in the San Monique voodoo sequence. The vast majority are still unidentified but The Bond Archives are always searching far and wide to give these performers their place in cinematic history.
