Flo Treadway during the wedding ceremony.
Florence Coyle Treadway, affectionally known as ‘Flo-Flo’, was born on the 3rd of September, 1929, in New Orleans.
Having grown up in ‘The Big Easy’, she graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart and went on to attend Wellesley College in Massachusetts, the University of New Orleans and Mercer University in Macon, Georgia.
Later in life she married one of the region’s most respected insurance brokers and former Judge, William Lomax Treadway. They lived at the Treadway Estate in Slidell, Louisiana, which became one of the most important location bases for the James Bond adventure “Live & Let Die”, after director Guy Hamilton and his entourage approached to family to film part of the iconic boat chase sequence across their lawn. Florence became an integral part of proceedings and was at the forefront of hospitality. She made sure that all the crew and cast members were well fed and looked after during the long days of filming in the mosquito infested Louisiana heat. Another key contribution by her to the film was the supply of many locals and friends to appear as guests in the wedding sequence. Flo herself appeared in the scene, as did her eldest son, William.
Excluding her important contributions to this iconic 007 adventure, Flo was a stalwart for the local community and was always on-hand to help anyone and everyone. She was an active member of the Junior League of New Orleans, who’s mission was to advance women’s leadership in the region in order to give added support to the local society. Shortly after her filming adventures, she officially became one of the first paralegals in the city of New Orleans and also became director of Longue Vue House and Gardens, which is a historical museum in the Lakewood area of the city.
Following a lifetime of service to the area she lived in for most of her life, Florence Treadway passed away on the 27th of December, 2020, aged 91.
In "Live & Let Die", Flo Treadway was cast as an extra during the boat chase sequence.
She portrayed the groom's mother during the wedding scene. She can be seen wearing a bright yellow dress and is sat in the front row.
The first photo shows a rare shot of Flo during the Christopher Doll documentary of the making of "Live & Let Die". It was signed in April of 2008.
The second photo displayed below has been signed by Flo Treadway, William Treadway III, Doree Schneider Donovan and Gardner Kole. This amazing photo was also signed in April of 2008.
These are the only known James Bond photo Flo ever signed, making them a piece of "LALD" history.
In real life, she was in fact the best man's mother and not the groom's mother.
Flo appears in the fascinating documentary by Christopher Doll "Bond 1973: The Lost Documentary", which was filmed during the making of "Live & Let Die". It can be viewed by fans on the special edition release of the film and also features short interviews with key personnel including stunt coordinator Eddie Smith.
