Robert Edward McGinnis was born on the 3rd of February, 1926, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
He is an American artist and illustrator, best known for his film poster art and paperback book cover illustrations.
McGinnis began his career as an apprentice at Walt Disney studios and went on to study art at Ohio State University. During the early part of his career he met Mitchell Hooks who introduced him to Dell Publishing, thus beginning a new path as a paperback illustrator. He would go on create over 1,200 covers for authors such as Erle Stanley Gardner, Richard S. Prather and Edward S. Aarons.
He also designed a number of film posters including: “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” (1961), “Arabesque” (1966), “Sleeper” (1973) and “International Velvet” (1978). As well as the James Bond posters for “Thunderball” (1965), “Casino Royale” (1967), “You Only Live Twice” (1967), “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” (1969), “Diamonds Are Forever” (1971), “Live & Let Die” (1973) and “The Man With The Golden Gun” (1974).
Since 2004, Robert has created the cover illustrations for the ‘Hard Case Crime’ paperback series.
In "Live & Let Die", Robert McGinnis was the artist who created the iconic poster artwork for the film.
Robert McGinnis was the solo artist for the poster of "Live & Let Die".
This was the fifth consecutive James Bond production which used the artwork of Robert McGinnis.
